Nursery Application process and timeline
Hazeldene School has a Nursery class that is open on a term time basis.
There are 24 places a session available for the nursery apart from a Friday lunch and afternoon where there are 16 places.
A child is deemed to be of nursery-age from the beginning of the term following their third birthday. Parents may register their interest in a place at the nursery at any time using the application forms that can be obtained from the school website.
You can apply for a place in Nursery at any time, but please note that the closing date for applications in the year of admission is 30th January. For example if your child was starting Nursery in September 2025, you would need to apply by 30th January 2025.
Nursery admissions will have a single main entry point in September. However, applications for a January start may be considered if places remain available after the allocation process following the closing date
If your child is allocated a place in Nursery you will be sent a letter in early March. You will be invited to attend Nursery to familiarise yourselves with the staff, daily routine and given a start date for September towards the end of summer term.
Where places are remaining, later admissions are possible, up to the agreed admissions limit.
If you apply for a place outside the usual admission time and the Nursery is full, you will be asked if you would like your child’s name added to our waiting list. We cannot guarantee when a place will become available but will try our best to keep parent/carers informed.
Places offered are available to the child from the date the place is offered, until 31 August following their fourth birthday.
The school administers applications into the Nursery class. Acceptance into the Nursery class does not guarantee a place in the Reception classes in the September.
Admissions criteria
All children whose education, health and care (EHC) plans name the Nursery will be admitted before any other places are allocated.
If the Nursery is not oversubscribed, all applicants will be offered a place.
In the event that the school receives more applications than the number of places it has available, highest priority will be given to looked after children and all previously looked after children who apply for a place at the nursery.
- All ‘looked after’ children or children who were previously ‘looked after’ including children who appear [to the admission authority of the Nursery] to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted
- Children with siblings attending Hazeldene school.
- Children who live nearest to the Nursery determined by straight line distance from the school office to the pupil’s home address using a computerised mapping system.
The governing board may also give priority in their oversubscription criteria to children eligible for the early years’ pupil premium, the pupil premium, or the service premium. The nursery must be named in the admission arrangements, and its selection will be transparent and made on reasonable grounds.
