Hazeldene Lower School are very proud to be supporting the Karibuni Trust. The Karibuni Trust is a UK Registered Charity. It aims to raise awareness about the plight of children living off the streets and in the slums in areas of urban and rural poverty in Kenya; and to raise money to support projects to meet their needs. Karibuni is run by volunteers in the UK so apart from a small amount spent on office expenses, all the money raised and donated is used to support the work in the projects.
Les and Freda Driver have been to visit both the school council and to give a whole school assembly to explain what life is like for the children that are supported by the Karibuni Trust and how we as a school can help them. We are currently aiming to raise £600 to allow the Tsaidie Watoto Nursery School in Kibera
(Nairobi) to buy water storage facilities. Les and Freda explained that sometimes the school only has water two or three times a week from the one tap on site.
The school council held at cake sale on the 2nd May 2012 and rose an impressive £389.85. Thank you to all the parents for their kind donations and everyone who was involved. Special thanks to Mrs Jeffers, Mrs Norman and the school council for organising the sale.
Between the 14th May and 18th May a number of staff will be living on £1 a day for a week to highlight the plight of almost 1.4 billion people worldwide. The staff will be donating the money that they save during the week to the children’s fund. If you would like to take part in this challenge, please come and see Mrs Williams (4LW) this week or you can email for more details.
